Unicorns Are Real—and They’re Paddling in East London

It sounds like something out of a dream: unicorns gliding across a lake in East London, sparkling in the sun, surrounded by laughter and magic. But at Magical Unicorn Lake in Barking Park, this is more than fantasy—it’s a real, immersive experience that brings families together through movement, imagination, and meaningful connection.

Why Unicorns?

We chose unicorns not just because they’re fun (though let’s be honest—they absolutely are), but because they represent wonder, belief, and creativity. In a world where kids are often rushed from one activity to the next, the unicorn boats invite them to slow down, daydream, and create their own stories.

Every boat accommodates up to five people, which makes them perfect for siblings, cousins, or parents and carers joining in the ride. As you paddle, you move at your own pace—no rush, no race. It’s mindfulness on the water.

We didn’t stop smiling the entire time,” said one mum. “My youngest thought we were in a
fairy tale. Honestly, so did I.

Movement Meets Mental Wellness

Pedal boating might seem gentle, but it’s deceptively effective. It provides low-impact physical exercise for children and adults alike, engaging the legs and core while promoting cardiovascular activity. It’s ideal for families who want to get active together without the intensity of a gym workout.

But even more importantly, it’s good for the mind. Nature-based activities like this are proven to reduce cortisol levels (our stress hormone), boost mood, and increase attention span—particularly in children. When combined with the novelty and playfulness of unicorns, the mental health benefits multiply.

As a neuroscience graduate, I know that play rooted in nature and movement is a powerful tool for boosting dopamine and enhancing emotional resilience. A child steering a unicorn while laughing with a sibling is creating more than memories—they’re laying the groundwork for a healthy brain.

Future Features: The Unicorn Quest

We’re often asked if the legends are true—do we really have a magical quest for little adventurers? While the Unicorn Quest is not yet live, it’s something we’re developing with great care and excitement. The idea is simple: blend imagination with light physical activity, offering children the chance to engage in gentle problem-solving and cooperative storytelling on the water.

In the meantime, we invite families to invent their own quests. Pretend you’re off to save a magical island or discover a hidden treasure under the lily pads. It’s amazing what children come up with when we give them the time and space to lead.

My daughter made up her own mission where she had to deliver a message to the Queen of the Unicorns,” one parent told us. “We spent the whole ride talking in royal accents!
Inclusive and Accessible Fun

Our unicorn boats are designed with safety and simplicity in mind. With easy access from the jetty, supportive seats, and strict supervision, they’re suitable for children aged 3+, accompanied by an adult. We also offer adjusted rides for children with additional needs during our inclusive sessions.

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, making a summer memory, or just craving something magical, Magical Unicorn Lake offers a sensory-rich experience that appeals across generations.

And yes—it’s very Instagrammable.
